This Wednesday we started racing into the teeth of a strong breeze.
Our fleet of Picos, now well tested, were closely watched by spectators from the Beach Road.
Five of our boats competed in two races, fighting each other as well as the breeze.
After many capsizes and near collisions the results were as follows Race 4 (15th Aug) ... Race 5 (15th Aug).
Brian Ward, Senior Instructor.

Wednesday Dinghy Racing Results ... Race 2 (8th Aug) ... Race 3 (8th Aug)

1st August 2007

This Wednesday saw the start of our Dinghy Racing in our New Fleet of Laser Picos.

All six Picos were out ... Twelve Sailors.

With a westerly breeze, we had a very nice start line between one of our Club Jeanneaus (commonly refered to as The Orange Boat) on it's mooring ... and the end of the Jetty.

Proper start sequences worked well: 5,4,1,Start.
5 min to start: the "Class flag" goes up.
4 min to start "Blue Peter" goes up also.
1 min to start "Blue Peter" comes down.
Start: "Class Flag" comes down.

One minute to start ... Jane and Amy had perfect "Pole Position" on the line, but just too soon, and couldn't hold it.
Thomas and Richard got the "Perfect Start" ... coming up to the line with 5 secs to go ... fully powered up ... on a starboard tack. And Go !!!
The "Hot Favorites" Mike and Mathieu (two of Hallmark crew), didn't get a good start ... midway in the fleet.

In my opinion it was an exciting race ... any body's game ... Brian and Aaron were in the lead on the down wind leg ... but being chased closely by Mike and Mathieu, who just couldn't close the gap enough.

The final upwind leg to the finish line ... no change ... this is how the finished:

1st: Brian and Aaron
2nd: Mike and Mathieu
3rd: Thomas and Richard
